Much of the earlier history of Bromsgrove can be seen at Bromsgrove Museum, which contains interesting exhibits of the glass, salt, nail and button making industries, and of the Bromsgrove Guild. It also contains an attractive range of shop windows, which feature costumes, toys, cameras and much more - many items of which were produced in Bromsgrove itself. The building is the former Coach House of Davenal House, built in 1780. In the 1970's it was rebuilt but whilst modern methods of building had to be used, as much as possible of the original design was retained. On the front of the Museum the wrought iron balcony that originally adorned the now demolished station masters house at Bromsgrove can be seen. It is said that, in 1848, Stephenson, the great engineer, stood on the balcony and looked down the Bristol Line.
